As Edge devices become more integral to both our domestic and commercial lives, the requirement for devices to be available whenever you want them is critical. Added to this, the ability to keep devices updated so that they remain secure and equipped with the latest features provides consumer confidence in the product, as well as helping to secure repeat purchases.

Over-the-Air (OTA) updates are critical to address both these aspects. However being able to update a device with the minimal downtime for the user or consumer is important too. FoundriesFactory makes sending updates secure and easy to do, enabling the kernel, application and services to be updated separately.

This demo shows a device receiving an incremental OSTree OTA update to the kernel and then a separate Docker app update. The device remains operational during the kernel update and updates the Docker app with a simple kiosk application. The OTA update is being made to an STM32 MP1 board from ST Microelectronics. FoundriesFactory updates are all secured with TUF (The Update Framework).
